An elderly woman was taken to hospital with critical injuries after she was struck by a car on a rural road near Waingaro.
The woman was hit on Waingaro Road about 1.20pm on Tuesday and was airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
A section of Waingaro Road, between Rotowaro Road and Ohautira Road, was closed for almost four hours following the incident.

The road was reopened just after 6pm.
As of 9.30pm, the injured woman's condition was still described as critical.
